What is Anemia?

 

Anemia is a condition of weakness or tiredness caused by a shortage of healthy red blood cells using iron to transport oxygen.

What causes Anemia?

 

Anemia is usually caused by a shortage of functioning red blood cells.  This can be caused by bleeding, excessive cell death, or low production of cells.  Low production of red blood cells is usually caused by a shortage of Iron (Iron Deficiency).
